摘要: Abstract Brain slices take up water during incubation, increasing the wet weight of tissue to 50%. Metabolic inhibitors further increase this swelling process. The presence 4% Dextran-80 (80,000 mol.wt.) or polyethylene glycol (4000 mol. wt.) in incubation medium decreases and reduces effect metabolic inhibitors. Dextran polyethyleneglycol (PEG) reduce extracellular marker space a smaller degree than uptake. Therefore, intracellular is also inhibited. During brain slices, sodium levels potassium decrease, while ATP does not change. ion changes are reduced by PEG. Amino acid uptake affected When amino partially inhibited lack glucose medium, greater control media. This decreased below that uninhibited controls Dextran, but inhibition affected. We conclude independent some swelling. Increased as compared vivo probably due change mechanisms for cerebral homeostasis. Our results indicate cannot be explained shifts cellular compartments. Previous work indicated possible distribution responsible increased slices. These support hypotheses which composition compartment play key roles
