摘要: Hyperfunctioning nodules of the thyroid are thought to only rarely harbor cancer, and thus infrequently biopsied. Here, we present case a patient with hyperfunctioning nodule harboring carcinoma and, using MEDLINE literature searches, set out determine prevalence characteristics malignant “hot” as group. Historical, biochemical radiologic subjects their were compared those in cases benign nodules. A review surgical patients solitary managed by resection revealed an estimated 3.1% malignancy. separate search uncovered 76 reported hot nodules, besides case. Of these, 78% female mean age at time diagnosis was 47 years. Mean size 4.13 ± 1.68 cm. Laboratory assessment T3 elevation 76.5%, T4 51.9%, subclinical hyperthyroidism 13% patients. Histological papillary (PTC) 57.1%, follicular (FTC) 36.4%, Hurthle cell 7.8% Thus, low but non-trivial rate Compared individuals younger more predominantly female. Also, FTC found frequently than general. We unable find any specific that could be used distinguish between
