摘要: Game fences are widely used to mitigate human–wildlife conflict and, where fencing is deemed the right choice, appropriate design, alignment and maintenance keys effectiveness. We studied effectiveness of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park game fence along Boteti River in central Botswana, one highest areas country, using a spoor survey method counting holes made by transgressing animals. investigated fence’s separating humans wildlife, as evidenced transgression frequencies different hole-digging species. Since prevents access long stretches river national park boundary, transgressions for lions (Panthera leo), elephants (Loxodonta africana) all digging species were higher during dry season when there was no surface water available park. Conversely, cattle (Bos taurus Bos indicus) crossed moved into high numbers rainy season, probably grazing. Wildlife damage without implementation prompt constant repair, such cannot be effective alleviating conflict.
