Octreotide in the treatment of bleeding due to angiodysplasia of the small intestine.

摘要: Three patients with a history of bleeding due to small bowel angiodysplasia (repeated melena or occult fecal blood serious anemia) were treated for 10-40 months octreotide, somatostatin analog that reduces the splanchnic flow. A dose 0.1 mg subcutaneously twice day was followed by an increase in hemoglobin, and reduction elimination need transfusions. There no further episodes, stool hemoglobin became stably negative two cases. Suspension drug after 6 one case renewed bleeding, resumption led response. Lower doses tried another ineffective. Although these uncontrolled clinical cases do not prove its efficacy, octreotide appears be beneficial control prevention diffuse angiodysplasia. is evidence it results regression angiodysplasias, as they persisted patient subjected jejunoileoscopy.
