Key Attributes of a Successful Physician Order Entry System Implementation in a Multi-hospital Environment

摘要: The benefits of computerized physician order entry have been widely recognized, although few institutions successfully installed these systems. Obstacles to successful implementation are organizational as well technical. In the spring 2000, following a 4-year period planning and customization, 9-month pilot project, 14-month hiatus for year Ohio State University Health System extensively implemented across inpatient units. Implementation specialty community services is targeted completion in 2002. On units, all orders processed through system, with 80 percent being entered by physicians rest nursing or other licensed care providers. system deployable diverse clinical environments, focused on primary users, accepted clinicians. These three criteria which authors measured success their implementation. They believe that availability specialty-specific sets, engagement leadership, large-scale were key strategic factors enabled physician-users accept despite significant changes workflow.
