Prevalence of Articular Manifestations of Thalassemia Major: A Cross Sectional Single Center Study From Iraq

摘要: Objective:To detect the prevalence of articular manifestations thalassemia major and to evaluate its relationship duration disease frequency blood transfusion. Patients methods:This cross sectional study consisted 70 patients with major, 36 male 34 female aged (2-18) years.All were assessed clinically for presence manifestations, which include(Joint pain, tenderness, joint swelling, limitation movement).Laboratory investigations included biochemical tests all patients. X-ray knee was performed those involvement. Results: Articular found in 38 out (54.3%). Nineteen (27.2%) had involvement (the most often involved). Six (8,6%) ankle involvement, three (4.3%) elbow one patient joints (1.4%), four (5.7%)had five (7.1%) involvement.There significant correlation between number and: (p=0.03, r=1.5) transfusion (p=0.01, r=1.2) Conclusion: Thalassemia is frequently accompanied by manifestations.
