The effect of periodontal therapy in diabetics. Results after 5 years.

摘要: The present investigation was performed to study the frequency of recurrence periodontitis in diabetic subjects, who, prior initiation a 5-year period monitoring, were treated for moderate advanced periodontal disease. 20 patients with diabetes, type 1 (IDDM) or 2 (NIDDM) and 20, sex age matched, controls similar amounts tissue destruction, selected study. Following screening examination, all subjected non-surgical therapy (oral hygiene instruction, supra- subgingival scaling). 3 months later, baseline examination performed. This included assessments several parameters such as: number teeth, plaque, gingivitis, probing pocket depth attachment level. 6 after 40 subjects recalled 2nd examination. Sites which at this 6-month exhibited bleeding on probing, had > 5 mm, scheduled additional surgical (modified Widman flap). selective therapy, main monitoring initiated. During period, plaque control program repeated every months. Re-examinations regarding level 12, 24 60 findings from examinations disclosed that diabetics non-diabetics alike, moderately forms adult periodontitis, during subsequent able maintain healthy conditions. Thus, sites signs recurrent disease groups.
