摘要: Cell soma area or diameter distributions are generally very skewed and present some unusual problems in characterization description. In this study of ganglion cell size rabbit retina, our conclusions based on a statistical method which not only characterizes particular neuronal population but also may be considerable value other species parts the nervous system. To facilitate comparisons between retinas, we used density as measure retinal location. The retina has horizontally extended centralis, visual streak, show to have uniformly high peak along most its length. maps were estimate total number cells retina; mean for three retinas was about 406,000 cells, corresponds well an earlier count optic nerve axons (394,000 +/- 20,000; Vaney, D.I., A. Hughes (1976) J. Comp. Neurol. 170: 241-252). Contrary reports, could find any large differences inferior peripheral streak nor confirm report temporalis (Provis, M. (1979) 185: 121-138). superior different, however, and, within there small systematic change periphery streak. general, medium nearly constant proportions throughout while showed decrease proportion from streak; decline linear function density. terms size, no sharp distinction retina.
