摘要: Objective The current study investigated the self-reported temporal relationships of dieting, binge eating, and overweight in childhood. Method One hundred five non–treatment-seeking children ages 6–13 years were interviewed with children's Eating Disorder Examination (ChEDE) queried regarding loss control (LOC) history. Questionnaires depressive symptoms, trait anxiety, parent-reported problems completed. Results Sixty percent reported having attempted at least one diet. These had higher ChEDE scores (global, p < .001), greater body mass index (BMI) fat (p ≤ a trend towards an earlier age onset = .06) compared who never dieted. The 29.5% LOC eating significantly ineffectiveness, negative self-esteem, externalizing (all ps .05) those experienced eating. Most becoming before either dieting (79.4%) or experiencing (63.6%). Among 25.7% reporting both two thirds dieting. Participants mood .01). Children Weight Concern .01) global scores. Discussion For overweight, children, are common. Dieting precedes development only third time, but is associated disordered cognitions. relationship between childhood-onset requires further investigation to determine causal pathways for subsequent disorders. © 2005 by Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
