摘要: Plant cells need to communicate with each other orchestrate lifelong development, integrate physiological processes, and coordinate pathogen defense responses. The transmission of intercellular signals is an important means regulating all plant life from fertilization senescence. In this framework, plasmodesmata (PD)— nanopores lined by plasma membrane that bridge the cytoplasm most their neighbors—play a pivotal role. PD function as relay stations in unique cellular internet for rapid exchange water, metabolites, even macromolecules. Exciting progress has been made field plasmodesmal research, reported at 4th International Plasmodesma meeting Cape Town, South Africa, August 2001.
