摘要: In the interest of accelerating waste treatment processing, DOE has funded studies to better understand filtration with goal improving filter fluxes in existing crossflow equipment. The Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) performed some those studies, a focus on start-up techniques, cake development, application aids (cake forming solid precoats), and body feeds (flux enhancing polymers). This paper discusses progress studies. Crossflow is key process step many operating planned facilities separate undissolved solids from supernate solutions. separation technology generally advantage self-cleaning through action wall shear stress created by flow slurry tubes. However, ability depends being filtered. Many alkaline radioactive wastes are extremely challenging filtration, e.g., containing compounds aluminum iron, which have particles whose size morphology reduce permeability. Unfortunately, low flux can be bottleneck processing such as Integrated Salt Disposition Process Hanford Waste Treatment Plant. Any improvement rate would lead directly increasedmore » throughput entire process. To date increased rates realized either increasing feed rate, limited pump capacity, or surface area, space required load. SRNL set up both dead-end tests performance based media structure, conditions, cleaning, several different types feeds. Using non-radioactive simulated wastes, chemically physically similar actual authors evaluate methods improve performance. With proper use conditions enhancers, over currently today. Experiments that simulants for always carry inherent risk not eliciting prototypic results; however, they will assist focusing scope needed minimize testing thus maximize safety. end this investigation determined: (1) simulant SB6 was found more than SRS Tank 8F simulant; (2) Higher concentration presents greater challenge filtration; (3) Filter something should properly developed initial operation; (4) Backpulsing necessary maintain good salt wastes; (5) Scouring without cleaning improved performance; (6) presence an order magnitude determined turbidity; (7) A well periodic scouring may allow maintained long periods time; (8) Filtrate decline reversible when filtering drops scoured.« less
