摘要: Inferences regarding animal presence from passive acoustic receiver arrays are driven by the spatial configuration of receivers. Large, dense provide more information, but maintenance multiple receivers is costly. Configuring to maximise coverage while minimising cost therefore paramount. This study used data a array within white shark Carcharodon carcharias nursery area on east coast Australia assess how detection tagged sharks in was affected reducing size. Receivers were sub-sampled post hoc simple random sampling, clustered and sampling top performing Using receivers, size could be reduced 60% (10 out 25 receivers) still detecting median 100% detected with full array. With methods, 40% reduction (15 sharks. Reducing using resulted 35% decrease number detections per visit (67 102.5 detections). In comparison, same amount methods 57% (44 The this an empirical approach for optimising placement limited resources broad application establishing cost-effective monitoring.
