摘要: Background: Understanding movement patterns is fundamental to population and conservation biology. The way an animal moves through its environment influences the dynamics of local populations will determine how susceptible it natural or anthropogenic perturbations. It particular interest understand for species which are human activities (e.g. fishing), that exert a large influence on community structure, such as sharks. Methodology/Principal Findings: We monitored 34 sixgill sharks Hexanchus griseus using two large-scale acoustic arrays inside outside Puget Sound, Washington, USA. Sixgill were residents in Sound up at least four years before making movements out estuary. Within sixgills inhabited sites several weeks time returned same annually. Across years, had consistent seasonal they moved north from winter spring south summer fall. Just prior leaving altered their behavior twice fast among sites. Nineteen thirty-four detected outer coast. Three these Sound. Conclusions/Significance: For most marine predators, we have limited understanding move environment, this clouds our ability successfully manage communities. With detailed information, being uncovered with monitoring, can begin quantify spatial temporal impacts predators within framework ecosystems.
