Chemical, mechanical and microstructural characterization of low-oxygen containing silicon carbide fibers with ceramic coatings

摘要: Room temperature tensile strengths of as-received Hi-Nicalon fibers and those having BN/SiC, p-BN/SiC, p-B(Si)N/SiC surface coatings, deposited by chemical vapor deposition, were measured using an average fiber diameter 13.5μm. The Weibull statistical parameters determined for each fiber. strength uncoated was 3.19 ± 0.73 GPa with a modulus 5.41. Strength coated BN/SiC did not change. However, p-BN/SiC layers showed loss ~10% 35%, respectively, compared the fibers.
