摘要: A side effect of long-term administration the anti-epileptic drug phenytoin is overgrowth connective tissues surrounding teeth. In this in vitro study protein and collagen synthesis by diploid fibroblasts from 17 nonepileptic young persons with healthy gingivae, only seven strains cells responded to culture medium. Because not all phenytoin-treated individuals develop gingival overgrowth, we suggest that susceptibility predicated upon presence a (genetically determined) phenytoin-sensitive subpopulation fibroblasts. The concept participation sensitive cell subpopulations other tissue disorders supported these findings.
