摘要: A short introduction is given to the systematics and morphology of pelagic Gastropoda (Mollusca: Heteropoda Pteropoda), also explaining some details animals’ particular way life. The fossil record these invertebrates discussed briefly, followed by an overview existing literature, focussing on Mediterranean Basin. Developments during Cenozoic are explained stage numerical occurrences species within basin correlated with palaeo-temperatures, generally very good results. In same context illustrations added index or otherwise interesting taxa. intensively studied Quaternary referred citing other papers recently published. preliminary biozonation scheme, developed based Pteropoda, schematically included in one illustrations. last part, we discuss possible future developments holoplanktonic molluscs, resulting hand from increased knowledge systematics, phylogeny biogeography due recent interest this group application modern powerful morphometric molecular techniques. On hand, there exist major concerns about (combined) effects global warming ocean acidification.
