摘要: Comparisons are made between acoustic recordings of fish distribution, abundance and behaviour when alternative scientific survey fishing strategies employed. Two case-studies examined. In the first, a research vessel uses both to observe sandeels on Dogger bank. second, commercial demersal Shetland shelf edge. Although there were clear differences in densities distribution sandeel schools recorded by different observation perspectives, reveal important information improve understanding resources ecology. The examples used illustrate how perceptions may, at times, lead starkly contrasting opinions fishermen scientists. Implications discussed context changing emphasis fisheries management toward partnerships collaboration industry, science management.
