The wild dog—Africa's vanishing carnivore

摘要: This paper presents a synopsis of the current status and distribution African wild dog Lycaon pictus, outlines reasons for its decline discusses recommendations to halt or reverse this decline. A recent review species provides evidence that it has disappeared is in throughout range (sub-Saharan Africa). Relict populations with little no chance long-term survival are found several countries including Algeria Senegal. Countries believed contain potentially viable are, from north south, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa (only Kruger National Park).
