摘要: Knee joint replacement is an effective and cost-effective intervention for severe symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee joint. However, utilisation rates vary hugely, there are no indications, it difficult to know when (in course arthritis) best operate, some 10-20% people who have this surgery unhappy with outcome, persistent pain. In article we briefly discuss variations in utilization replacement, then outline four different approaches selection prioritisation patients procedure. Consensus criteria, including appropriateness criteria available, but if produced by professionals alone, they may conflict views public. Databases cohort studies can be used attempt relating outcomes baseline characteristics, at present only account a small percentage variance technique. Finally, propose use 'capacity benefit framework' providing guidance both healthcare professionals.
