摘要: Purpose To compare the performance of near vision activities using additional portable electronic enhancement systems (p-EVES), to optical magnifiers alone, by individuals with visual impairment. Methods A total 100 experienced aid users were recruited from low clinics at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester, UK, a prospective two-arm cross-over randomised controlled trial. Reading, activities, and device usage evaluated baseline; end each study arm (Intervention A: existing aids plus p-EVES; Intervention B: only) which was after 2 4 months. Results A 82 participants completed study. Overall, maximum reading speed for high contrast sentences not statistically significantly different p-EVES, although critical print size threshold could be accessed p-EVES smaller (p < 0.001 in both cases). The used larger number tasks 0.001), more frequently 0.001). However preferred leisure 70% participants, allowed longer duration During when they had device, able carry out independently reported less difficulty range 0.001). Conclusions The provides evidence that devices can play useful role supplementing reduce activity limitation tasks.
