摘要: Pneumonia is counted among the leading causes of death worldwide. Viruses, bacteria and pathogen-related molecules interact with cells present in human alveolus by numerous, yet poorly understood ways. Traditional cell culture models little reflect cellular composition, matrix complexity three-dimensional architecture lung. Integrative animal suffer from species differences, which are particular importance for investigation zoonotic lung diseases. The use cultured ex vivo infected tissue may overcome some these limitations complement traditional models. review gives an overview common bacterial infections, such as pneumococcal infection widely neglected pathogens modeled tissue. role emerging viral zoonosis including influenza A virus Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus discussed. Finally, further directions elaboration revealed. Overall, introduced represent meaningful robust methods to investigate principles pathogen-host interaction original
