Emergency contraception with mifepristone and levonorgestrel: mechanism of action

摘要: Abstract OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of mifepristone and levonorgestrel on ovarian function endometrial development in doses effective as emergency contraception. METHODS: Twelve fertile women were treated with either 10 mg a single dose (n = 6) or two 0.75 levonorgestrel, 12 hours apart before after ovulation. An biopsy performed during implantation period was analyzed for maturation expression markers receptivity. The tested integrin α4 β3, cyclooxygenase-1 -2, progesterone receptors, Dolichos biflorus agglutinin lectin binding, pinopodes. Urinary excretion luteinizing hormone, estrone, pregnanediol also determined RESULTS: Treatment ovulation inhibited hormone surge showing no significant differences between means measurements. When administered early luteal phase, downregulation receptors five six women. No alteration found any remaining CONCLUSION: mode action contraception is primarily due to inhibition rather than implantation.
