Mexican American mothers' initiation and understanding of home oral hygiene for young children.

摘要: Purpose To investigate caregiver beliefs and behaviors as key issues in the initiation of home oral hygiene routines. Oral helps reduce prevalence early childhood caries, which is disproportionately high among Mexican-American children. Methods Interviews were conducted with a convenience sample 48 mothers young children low income, urban neighborhood. digitally recorded, translated, transcribed, coded analyzed using standard qualitative procedures. Results The average age tooth brushing was 1.8 +/- 0.8 years; only small proportion parents (13%) initiated accord American Dental Association (ADA) recommendations. Mothers 2 forms hygiene: infant regular brushing.
