Extraneural metastases of central nervous system tumors

摘要: In the past, extraneural metastasis of central nervous system tumors was considered to be a rare event. However, more recently, considerable body literature has accumulated so that date some 282 patients with metastases have been reported. Of these reported cases, 40.4% occurred in children. Although can spread spontaneously beyond confines system, most instances occur after craniotomy or diversionary cerebrospinal fluid shunting. Extraneural are universally fatal. it is not curative, chemotherapeutic treatment may greatly decrease patient's discomfort and improve quality duration survival. Every effort should made prevent this complication by avoiding shunting procedures incorporating filtering device if shunt becomes necessary.
