摘要: This chapter discusses consciousness and unconsciousness. Consciousness is a state of awareness in which the subject capable perception self environment. may be considered as activity brain that enables it to exert any its functions mind. The cerebral cortex responsible for content but must damaged severely diffusely before producing loss consciousness. In contrast, modest degree damage midline structures thalamus midbrain will produce impairment or rostral part reticular formation essential maintenance conscious state. cells resemble motor neurons appearance are scattered throughout brainstem, enmeshed fibers whose net-like pattern designation reticular. impaired by failure activating system diffuse disorder cortex. localized lesions hemispheres do not cause unless involved directly pathological process indirectly means edema, ischemia, compression.
