摘要: Abstract Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) fruit softening during ripening is associated with the overlapping presence of two divergent endo-β-(1,4)-glucanases (EC 3.2.1.4; EGases), Cel1 and Cel2. Antisense down-regulation both genes was performed to assess precise role these on strawberry softening. Constant cel1 expression throughout obtained, which accompanied by reduced protein accumulation. However, diminution level together a reduction total EGase activity 40% control did not affect firmness, thus suggesting that major determinant ripening. On other hand, no significant Cel2 accumulation found in any transgenic or Cel1/Cel2 double-transgenic lines obtained. The difficulties encountered yield line cel2 suggest this gene might be playing pivotal development prior ripening, accounting for lack observed.
