摘要: The paradox of patients who are in pain, yet satisfied with their pain management, has been previously reported. To probe this paradox, we used cross-sectional data collected the primary care setting on cancer patients' patterns and treatment, beliefs expectations about relief, willingness to report take medication, from provider, satisfaction management (n = 316). Descriptive findings were similar other studies: more than 75% or very overall despite almost half all reporting recent moderate severe pain. Univariate bivariate analyses consistent hypothesis that may expect therefore "peak trough" pattern severity occurs "as-needed" administration analgesics. However, multivariate failed directly support hypothesis. Instead, regression identified factors related characteristics experiences, its inevitability, frequency reported aspects patient--provider relationship. Predictors how doctor managed included: whether not patient was told treating an important goal, sustained long-term degree which willing opioids if prescribed by nurse (adjusted R(2) 0.22). Qualitative during past three days but 88) further suggest importance relationship shaping expectations. Based these findings, recommend future research outcomes place greater emphasis potential impact patient-provider
