From Invisibility to Transparency: Identifying the Implications

摘要: This paper explores the need for a broader and more inclusive approach to decisions about land resources, one that recognizes legitimacy of cultural values traditional knowledge in environmental decision making policy. Invisible losses are those not widely recognized or accounted resource planning resource- land-use negotiations precisely because they involve considerations tend be ignored by managers scientists often indirect cumulative, resulting from complex, cumulative series events, decisions, choices, policies. First Nations communities western North America have experienced many such that, together, resulted decline overall resilience individuals communities. We identified eight types invisible overlapping cumulative: cultural/lifestyle losses, loss identity, health self-determination influence, emotional psychological order world, economic lost opportunities. To render transparent, which represents first step developing positive equitable basis around we recommend six processes: focusing on what matters people affected, describing meaningful ways, place these concerns making, evaluating future gains historical baseline, recognizing culturally derived as relevant, creating better alternatives so will diminished eliminated future.
