摘要: Abstract A hypothesis explaining the observed specificity in respect of recognition specific transfer RNA's ‡ by aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases is presented. Available evidence, although not decisive, seems to favour view that synthetase recognizes a nucleotide sequence (“synthetase code-word”) tRNA. If this true, it argued amino acids should bear same relationship each other their code-words as they do codons. The sequences five yeast tRNA's are analysed light above premise, and possible set for all yeast, excepting methionine, proposed. suggested three letter begin with either adenine or uracil, case tRNAs known structure, occur region RNA molecule; may be recognized appropriate only if certain constraints, which stated, satisfied. evidence supporting proposed assignments summarized, some predictions made. It would seem code—in way second genetic code—is species specific.
