摘要: Globally, fisheries catch of non-target species has major environmental impacts, resulting in social conflict, litigation, and closures. We use a bio-economic approach to demonstrate that compensatory mitigation – an innovative, market-influenced fishery–conservation conflicts can facilitate high-value uses biological resources cost-effective conservation gains for concern. illustrate the strategy with seabird example: levying fishers their bycatch using funds remove invasive mammals from breeding islands. Removal predators is 23 times more effective return-on-investment perspective (ie percent increase population growth per dollar invested) comparison closures, socio-politically feasible. A levy, which would endangerment, provides individual incentive avoiding bycatch, most mechanism sustainable management fisheries. Compensatory opportunity address global concern, optimize interventions, forge alliance between organizations.
