摘要: The nutritional regulation of protein and amino acid balance in human skeletal muscle carried out by the authors with Mike Rennie is reviewed context a simple physiological model for maintenance growth muscle, "Bag Theory". Beginning London late 1970s work has involved use stable isotopes to probe synthesis breakdown two basic experimental models, primed-dose continuous tracer infusions combined biopsies arterio-venous (A-V) studies across limb, most often leg, allowing both as well net be measured. In this way, over 30 year period, way which acids insulin mediate anabolic effect meal been elaborated great detail confirming original concepts bag filling within endomysial "bag", limited "bag" size unless enlargement occurs requiring new collagen synthesis. Finally we briefly review some developments involving 2 H2 O labelling proteins.
