“You’ll Never Walk Alone”—How Loyal Are Soccer Fans to Their Clubs When They Are Struggling Against Relegation?

摘要: This article reports results from a longitudinal field study examining the psychological processes underlying soccer fans’ loyalty toward their clubs and emotional states depending on seasonal outcome of clubs. We found that perceptions three relationship strength indicators—satisfaction, self-connection, intimate commitment—and levels basking in reflected glory (BIRGing) did not decrease cutting off failure (CORFing) increase when German Bundesliga were relegated to lower division. The BIRGing, commitment fact increased after this event, producing intense positive, negative, mixed emotions fans. support notion fandom is about expressing identity attitude life, sharing details with club, standing by it, both good bad times. Thus fans are strongly bound each other.
