摘要: T raining for and practicing the specialty of medical oncology are stressful endeavors. During training process, future oncologists often cope with their stress by assuming that “things will get better” after they complete residency fellowship. This myth leads physicians to sacrifice many personal values activities give life meaning. It also may perpetuate a philosophy delayed gratification loss balance between professional lives. If it is maintained long period, this imbalance diminish resources help job-related ultimately contribute physician burnout, syndrome emotional exhaustion depersonalization decreased effectiveness at work. The insidious self during early practice be perpetuated culture residency/fellowship example role models. Recognition well-being important provides opportunity reflect on make proactive decisions combat burnout enhance satisfaction. In article, we propose three steps identify values, promote lives, find most meaningful in work, nurture well-being. addition, based suggestions oncologists, offer recommendations fellowship programs these professionals prepare fellows challenges face practice.
