摘要: Bibliographic and data gathered in scientific bottom trawl surveys carried out off the Southern Coasts of Sicily (Mediterranean Sea), from 1994 to 2009 between a depth 10 800 m, were analysed order prepare checklist demersal sharks chimaera, which are species sensitive fisheries exploitation. Out 27 previously reported shark chimaera taxa Mediterranean, only 23 found literature 20 sampled during investigated area. Among surveys, 2 ubiquitous (Squalusblainville Scyliorhinuscanicula) 3 deep-water (Chimaeramonstrosa, Centrophorusgranulosus Galeusmelastomus) showed wide geographical distribution with consistent abundance. Excluding rare (such as Oxynotuscentrina) or uncommon (e.g. Squalusacanthias), estimated frequencies occurrence abundance indexes show possible risk local extinction for almost exclusively angelshark, Squatina spp.) preferential Scyliorhinusstellaris) neritic species.
