摘要: Summary Reasons for performing study: Centesis of the bicipital bursa using an 8.9 cm long spinal needle has been reported but alternative employing a 3.8 hypodermic requires validation. Objective: To compare efficacy 2 different methods centesis and to evaluate usefulness ultrasonographic imaging determine location solution administered when is attempted. Methods: For Trial 1, 6 clinicians, who had no previous experience bursa, attempted inject composed aqueous radiopaque contrast medium physiological saline (PSS) into bursae 2/12 horses previously described distal approach one proximal contralateral bursa. The tendon were examined ultrasonographically before after injection; both shoulders radiographically identify medium. In 2, another also with centesis, repeated horses, was mixed air instead PSS. Results: Accuracy 39% that 28%. Ultrasonographic examination shoulder allowed be accurately predicted in all 12 examined. Conclusions: Clinicians have are unlikely successful either approach. Radiographic injecting may necessary assess success especially if bursal fluid not obtained during centesis. Injecting along provides more accurate confirmation better radiographic definition than does injection without air.
