摘要: Abstract Adsorptive wells arrays are an innovative outline of Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRBs) made a definite number passive deep opportunely distributed in the aquifer, known as PAB-D (Discontinuous Barrier). They generally located downstream contaminated groundwater flow and perpendicularly to direction. Being filled with adsorbing media, whose hydraulic permeability is higher than surrounding array will create targeted capture zone, which force water pass through whole PAB-D, allowing for both interception contaminant plume its treatment. In this work, optimized configuration presented, situ-remediation aquifer simultaneously by benzene toluene. The design optimization was performed using COMSOL Multiphysics®, numerical simulations reproduced transport adsorptive phenomena occurring inside barrier itself. proposed technique applied remediation urban area north Naples (Italy), proximity numerous landfills, where contamination spread over 0.10 km2. Simulation results confirm effectiveness being pollutant plumes intercepted their concentrations reduced below correspondent Italian regulatory threshold values. best resulted 741 wells, each having diameter 0.6 m, also compared continuous (PAB C) showing reduction about 49% volume 35% overall cost.
