摘要: The primary motor cortex (MI) contains a map organized so that contralateral limb or facial movements are elicited by electrical stimulation within separate medial to lateral MI regions. Within hours of peripheral nerve transection in adult rats, represented neighboring areas evoked from the cortical territory affected body part. One potential mechanism for reorganization is adjacent regions expand when preexisting excitatory connections unmasked decreased intracortical inhibition. During pharmacological blockade inhibition one part representation, representations were areas. These results suggest form substrate maps and inhibitory circuits critically placed maintain readjust representations.
