摘要: Prostate biopsy (PBx) techniques have significantly changed since the original Hodge's 'sextant scheme', which should now be considered obsolete. The feasibility of carrying out a scheme with high number cores in an outpatient setting is result great improvement and efficacy local anesthesia. Peri-prostatic nerve block lidocaine injection 'gold standard' because it provides best pain relief to patients undergoing PBx. optimal extended protocol include sextant template additional 4-6 directed laterally (anterior horn) base medially apex. Saturation biopsies (i.e. > or = 20 cores, including transition zone) carried only when are repeated where there suspicion prostate cancer. Complementary imaging methods (such as color- power-Doppler imaging, without contrast enhancement, elastography) could used order increase accuracy reduce unnecessary procedures. Nevertheless, routine use these still under evaluation.
