摘要: Bones must be stiff so that they do not bend when loaded. also flexible, able to absorb energy by elastic and plastic deformation. Structural failure may occur if bones deform too little or much. Age- menopause-related abnormalities in bone remodeling produce loss of the material structural properties no longer keep “just right.” High reduces mineral content tissue, resulting stiffness. Sex hormone deficiency increases volume resorbed formed each BMU. The contributions made differences composition (tissue content, collagen type, cross-linking), structure (bone size, cortical thickness porosity, trabecular number, thickness, connectivity), other factors (microdamage burden ostocyte density) sex racial difference fragility remain poorly defined. One does know why how break. challenge is thus, measure these specific determinants strength. Whether a combination will more accurately identify women as likely sustain fractures, improve approaches drug therapy, unknown, but it likely.
