摘要: Pterygium is a potentially vision-threatening fibrovascular lesion originating from the conjunctiva that often extends on corneal surface. Although it has been extensively studied, its pathogenesis yet to be fully elucidated. Recent evidence molecular genetic abnormalities in pterygium suggested neoplastic changes of limbal stem cells associated with exposure ultraviolet (UV) light. Human papillomavirus (HPV) an oncogenic virus, squamo-proliferative lesions anogenital region, skin and oropharynx. Several studies have shown HPV involvement conjunctival lesions, including papilloma squamous cell carcinoma. The as co-factor pterygium, although by several using PCR immunohistochemical techniques, remains controversial. Moreover, marked variation prevalence ophthalmic reported different studies. Ethnic susceptibility methodological differences detection may account for this variation. Surgical excision, sophisticated standard current method therapy pterygium. However, recurrences are frequent recurrent tend more aggressive. If indeed involved or recurrence, anti-viral medications vaccination new options therapy.
