Mediastinal Tumor-like Conditions and Tumors that can Simulate Thymic Neoplasms

摘要: Many of the neoplasms and tumor-like conditions that occur in anterosuperior mediastinum may simulate thymic lesions on chest roentgenograms or even computerized tomograms (CT) (Marchevsky Kaneko 1984). They include inflammatory soft tissue lesions, malignant lymphomas other lymphadenopathies, cysts, endocrine neoplasms, tumors mesenchymal neurogenic origin. Patients with any these undergo surgical intervention a clinical diagnosis thymoma, correct being established only after histologic examination obtained by biopsy resection. Detailed descriptions pathologic features all diseases is beyond scope this chapter. Only most important aspects frequent interesting mediastinal are liable to simulate, clinically roentgenologically, will be discussed (Table 1).
