摘要: Water is a scarce resource in many parts of the developed world. Two solutions are possible to address water scarcity: conservation existing resources, or further production from new sources e.g. through recycling wastewater desalination seawater. However, main hurdle implementation these often viewed as lack public willingness adopt alternative behaviours. Research this area therefore crucial. Yet, and possibly due interdisciplinary nature such research, there currently no comprehensive overview what has been done before. This study fills gap by (1) choosing general consumer behaviour perspective starting point, (2) developing conceptual model research required water-related acceptance studies, (3) identifying eight key behaviours which require future attention, (4) reviewing areas have investigated past conducting an extensive literature review social science research. The established that majority work conducted located at cross-roads personal characteristics behavioural intentions. Significant gaps exist relation researching adoption wide range demand-side indicates dominance supply-side social-research exploration. identifies number needs including: exploration actual (rather than intentions); widen scope enquiry include more solutions. Given increasing scarcity world, addressing identified will be significant importance. Thus our informs agenda for policy.
