摘要: The red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta, a damaging invasive pest, was discovered in February 2001 Brisbane, Australia at two sites, Fisherman Islands and suburban Richlands-Wacol. Using four microsatellite loci the protein marker Gp-9, we compared infestations with each other, potential source populations North South America to better understand history of their introduction Brisbane. Based on an analysis molecular variance, as well maximum likelihood tree colonies from Australian found that sites were genetically distinct almost certainly introduced separately. All monogynous, headed by single queen, while Richlands-Wacol site had mixture single-queen monogynous multiple-queen polygynous colonies. However, not probably constitute single, mixed introduction. allele frequencies loci, both more similar American than American, though infestation intermediate, making it difficult assign. Thus, there has been one either or population Islands, monogynous/polygynous These findings have implications for control current infestations, quarantine regulations necessary prevent additional introductions Australia.
