Poverty and Inequality in India: A Re-Examination

摘要: This paper presents a new set of integrated poverty and inequality estimates for India Indian states 1987-88, 1993-94 1999-2000. The are broadly consistent with independent evidence on per capita expenditure, state domestic product real agricultural wages. They show that decline in the 1990s proceeded more or less line earlier trends. Regional disparities increased 1990s, southern western regions doing much better than northern eastern regions. Economic also within states, especially urban areas, between rural areas. We briefly examine other development indicators, relating instance to health education.
