Pseudopolycythemia, pseudothrombocytopenia, and pseudoleukopenia due to overfilling of blood collection vacuum tubes

摘要: A patient blood sample with an unexpectedly high hemoglobin level, hematocrit, low white cell count, and platelet count was recognized as being spurious based on previously available data. Repeated testing of the original showed a gradual return all parameters to expected levels. We provide evidence that overfilling collection vacuum tubes can lead inadequate mixing that, in combination settling cellular contents tubes, result spuriously abnormal hematological estimated by automated method.
