摘要: Abstract The use of citizen science to address global and local environmental challenges will depend on demonstrated evidence that it can lead meaningful contributions science, management, social action. Systematic evaluation projects is important yet lacking date. We developed an tool used conduct a meta-analysis 51 Earthwatch over 7-year period, assessing their ability produce peer-reviewed publications contribute management plans policies. development testing identified key factors improve outcomes projects, including deliberate design through direct engagement with scientists. In turn, scientists increased reporting when were being for program assessment feedback participants. Over this the consisted of: 333 264 policies, mean 1.6 per project year 1.3 year. Across averaged 6.5 5.2 policies (range 0–26 project). Several other attributes found higher outcomes. creation tools helped hold accountable highlighted managers characteristics improved Elements approach could be transferred helping fulfill potential challenges.
