摘要: Captive carnivores pose a challenge for conservationists and institutions alike, presenting many problems that range from diseases to poor welfare unsuccessful breeding. Available databases of captive populations are rich sources information can help determine which factors affect breeding success the real potential these in conservation programmes. Some species, such as tigers Panthera tigris , seem preserve captivity same reproductive parameters seen wild animals, making individuals extremely useful research biology, be applied evolutionary physiological studies order Carnivora. Specific characteristics, mainly connected with altriciality young, make some species more prone lose young than others, must taken into consideration when developing ex situ Infant mortality seems primarily caused by inadequate maternal behaviour, biological well individual characteristics origin rearing methods. Maternal infanticide, either passive or active, is also affected ecological there may an effect females, i.e. if they were wildcaught captive-born. Housing conditions history infant mortality, females suffered transfer between exhibiting lower success. Also, thriving programmes presented higher overall, independently their latitude management system, indicate human interference. Further research, both captivity, needed fully understand affecting carnivores.
