摘要: Background: Increasing evidence supports n3 fatty acid (FA) supplementation for patients with psychiatric disorders, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, the exact metabolic fate of dietary eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) on different glyceride carriers remains unclear. Objective: We investigated whether conjugation EPA DHA to phospholipid (PL-n3) or triacylglycerol (fish oil; FO) affects their incorporation in blood compartments influences executive functioning. Design: Children aged 8–13 y impaired visual sustained performance received placebo, 250 mg/d esterifiedtoPL-n3(300mg/dphosphatidylserine),orFOfor3moin a randomized double-blind manner. Main outcome measures included plasma erythrocyte FA profile continuous test results (Test Variables Attention; TOVA). Results: Sixty 83 children enrolled completed interventions (n 18–21 per group). There was an enrichment (1.5–2.2-fold), docosapentaenoic (DPA; 1.2-fold), (1.3-fold) PL fraction FO- PL-n3–fed children. In erythrocytes, only PL-n3 resulted significant reduction(30%)ofvery-long-chainsaturatedFAs(C20-24)andin increase (1.2- 2.2-fold, respectively) linoleic DPA.TotalTOVAscoresincreasedinthePL-n3(x SD:3.35 1.86) FO (1.72 1.67) groups but not placebo group (0.42 2.51) (PL-n3 placebo; P 0.001). Conclusion: Consumption EPADHA esterified had effects these FAs fractions This trial registered at clinicaltrials.gov NCT00382616. Am J Clin Nutr 2008;87:1170–80.
