摘要: Bacteria regulate global biogeochemical cycles and much of this activity occurs in shallow coastal sediments; however, little is known the seasonality or how changes environmental conditions influence active sediment bacterial communities. Havre-aux-Maisons (Magdalen Islands, Canada), a relatively pristine enclosed lagoon, particular biological interest since it has no inflowing rivers provides an opportunity to investigate non-estuarine marine sediments. Potentially taxa surface sediments were identified over 15-month period using high-throughput rRNA amplicon sequencing. Sediment communities diverse at species level, with high Beta diversity. Throughout most sampling period, consisted that closely related each other, suggesting specific given time point favored similar ecological traits. However, phyla proteobacterial classes remarkably predominantly sulfur cycling community composed sulfur-oxidizing Gammaproteobacteria sulfate-reducing Deltaproteobacteria persisting despite oxygenated water column. This was disrupted after storm less common became more abundant. Following disruption, proportion benthic Cyanobacteria colonized before reestablishment sulfur-cycle-dominated community.
