摘要: Despite many job opportunities in the market and challenges they have to face, some minority of Saribas Malay community Betong, Sarawak is still maintaining traditional subsistence activities food production based on nipah tree (locally known as apong) such gula apong, garam apong cuka apong, jarik mayang, air sadap sago mulong) produce, lemantak. This research examines choice subsistence strategies settlement pattern the Malay who inhabit region. Through in-depth interview participant observation, finding suggested that reliance a river main highway connect them the other parts source marine resources determine linear settlement pattern along river. The results also suggest terrestrial resources; mulong accessibility abundance availability influence continuing traditional subsistence activities (apong mulong production) related those flora source. As such, the assemblage material culture exist within representation and manifestation their activities.
